Choosing Our Next Mission Project

OiC dedicates 10% of its income to support missions beyond our congregation.

This means that 10% of everything you give is shared forward to bless God’s work somewhere else. Besides giving financial help, we also want to give support through prayer and awareness.

The time has come to choose a new mission project. Which project would you like to support? Read, pray and join us for voting on the 7th of June.

The Norwegian Missionary Society was part of planting OiC and has been a close partner ever since.

As part of our cooperation, we would like to support one of their mission projects. We have picked 3 for you, the OiC congregation, to read and pray about so that we can together choose.

Option 1: SAT 7 Christian Satellite Channel

A Christian voice can be heard in areas with very few churches.

11077960_10152738272664147_3900365424472977885_nNMS supports the production of Christian television programs and helps paying producers and program hosts.

SAT 7 has the potential to reach 100 million Turkish speakers, 100 million Farsi speakers and 320 million Arab speakers. It is known that many watch the programmes.

Programmes contain teaching, children programmes, worship services, debates, programmes on social issues and also more entertaining programmes. The channel receives a lot of feedback, mainly through SMS and Facebook. The aim of SAT 7 is to contribute to a living Church in The Middle East and North Africa, firmly grounded in faith and serving society.

SAT 7 consists of seven channels; SAT-7 Arabic, SAT-7 Pars, SAT-7 Kids, SAT-7 Türk and SAT7 Plus. Programmes are in three different languages and production happens in Lebanon, Egypt, Turkey, London and Cyprus. SAT 7 broadcasts is 24 hours a day and can be watched on www.sat7.org.

Option 2: Egypt Ministries of Mercy

This centre is in one of the poorest parts of Cairo, and the only of its kind among tens of thousands of people. It is supported by several volunteer doctors.

It supports the community with:

  • A health clinic with a ward, x-ray unit and mobile eye-clinic.
  • A kindergarten and an orphanage.
  • Vocational training for adults.
  • A social meeting place.

There is a small medical ward, and 40-60 patients are treated every week.

The kindergarten receives 50 kids every day, and six orphans live here.

Adults without education receive training to become weavers or carpenters, and this helps some of them to find work.

The facility gives people a place to meet, both Christians and Muslims. There is a monthly gathering for women. Thirty to 40 meet for teaching and discussions on issues like health, family, and religion.

Option 3: Equipping Laypeople in North-Eastern Thailand

Helping the church grow through training lay-people for ministry.

Vision of the project: Equipping the churches to grow through training trainers.

Mukdahan
kirkesenteretmukdahan_prosjektglimt2013.jpg (normal)A centre is built in Mukdahan with room for about 50 people in the classrooms. 40 people can be accommodated in the two dormitories. There is further room for 100 people in the Emmanuel Home in Phibun, also widely used for courses and training. In addition, staff visits local churches and teaches.

Seminars
There are two camps for young people every year, «On» in April and «Impuls» in October. Additionally, there are several seminars for youth leaders.

We see fruit of the project as new leaders emerge. In the past few days two new churches have also emerged, alongside with four new daughter congregations.

Cooperation
NMS cooperates with The Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Thailand (ELCT) in this project. It is led by a board, three locally employed and two missionaries.
